The Shimano Waxwing Freshwater Jig is a freshwater sub-surface glide bait designed for targeting bigger freshwater game fish such as Pike/Musky and Peacock Bass. The Waxwing Jigs, from Shimano, were first introduced for saltwater applications became an instant hit among anglers for big pelagic inshore species. Building on that success, Shimano went back to the drawing board to create a freshwater version which maintained the same great action. Working the Waxwing Jig is quite easy, simply cast the Waxwing and point your rod tip straight towards the jig with a slow retrieve. Waxwing Freshwater version performs best with braided line topped with a heavy fluorocarbon leader. The jig's hydrodynamic body design creates a side-to-side, zigzag swimming motion with an irregular kicking action which triggers the fish to strike. This action is created from the jig's wings - the upper wing is responsible for creating the zig zag motion while the lower wing is tasked with preventing any rolling. The jig's shape is ideal for making long casts - the Waxwing Jig can be cast a country mile. Outfitted with Owner Blackchrome treble hooks (ST-36BC, Belly: #3/2, Tail #2/0), the Waxwing has a high level of hooking efficiency. We offer the Shimano Waxwing Freshwater Jigs in the 138 model which measures 5.4" in length and weighs 1.7oz.
