Shimano Waxwing Saltwater Jigs

The Shimano Waxwing Jigs are sub-surface swimming jigs for saltwater fishing applications. Simply cast the jig and point your rod tip straight towards the jig, then start reeling. The jig's hydrodynamic body design creates a side-to-side, zigzag swimming motion with an irregular kicking action which triggers the fish to strike. This action is created from the jig's wings - the upper wing is responsible for creating the zig zag motion while the lower wing is tasked with preventing any rolling. The Shimano Waxwing Jig features a stainless wire-through construction (except the 068 model) and a tin-coated saltwater double hook (except 168 model). The Waxwing Jigs are often employed with braided line when targeting inshore pelagic species such as yellowtail, dorado and tuna - southern California anglers have also found them effective in and around the kelp beds. The high quality finishes on the jigs are rarely seen in saltwater lures, offering exact matches to the forage species big game fish feed upon. Additionally, the jig's possess a UV reactive paint on the lateral line for a bit of flare and flash. We offer the Shimano Waxwing Jig in five sizes: 68, 88, 118, 138 and 168.

  • 68: - 2.7" - 1/2oz
  • 88: - 3.5" - 7/8oz
  • 118: - 4.6" - 1.58oz
  • 138: - 5.4" - 2.1oz
  • 168: - 6.6" - 4.4oz

I have not actually fished the lure let and have no idea if fish will be interested in it. However i did take it to my local pond and gave it a few practice casts on my surf rod. (people thought i was crazy fishing in a pond with a 12 foot surf rod) These lures fly like birds and when i retrieve them. i got that wonderful "is that a fish or my lure" feeling. I'm going to take them on my bucket list trip to Costa Rica in January, hoping to find a Rooster fish that wants to play. I hear you can get 50 pounders in the surf there. Wish me luck!
