The new Metanium MGL Casting Reels is the number one choice of professional tournament bass anglers and avid fishermen alike. Released at ICAST 2016, the new Shimano Metanium MGL reels are all about versatile performance and light weight. The new, Magnumlite Spool creates a very low moment of inertia, improving casting distance by 20%, while enhancing the light, smooth feel of turning the handle. Loaded with Shimano technology and high-end features like Hagane Body, Micro-Modual Gearing, Silent Tune, X-Ship and all new SVS Infinity braking, and available in three gear ratios from 6.2 to 8.5:1, the Metanium MGL is the optimal choice for a wide range of presentations, conditions and species.

First introduced in the previous version of the Metanium Reels, Shimano's Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel. Also continuing in the Metanium MGL casting reel is Shimano's SVS Infinity braking system which provides easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force. With brake weights that use inner friction against the raceway during the cast, SVS Infinity controls spool speed for precision casting especially when using lighter lures. The external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits.

Metanium MGL Reel Technology

The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler’s actions directly into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.

X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear.
