Shimano Calcutta Conquest Casting Reel

The Benchmark in round reels has been reborn in the Shimano Calcutta Conquest, an innovative re-imagining of one of the most popular casting reels of all time. Available for many years in the JDM market, the Conquest has followed suit with the Metanium and Antares and made it's way stateside. Known for their gold appearance, the Calcutta B has long been the standard for which other round casting reels are evaluated. Freshwater swimbait anglers and saltwater coastal fishermen alike found the reel to provide sufficient power and superior castability over any of its competitors and even to this day, the Calcutta B remains a dominate force in swimbait fishing. From the B series, the Calcutta D emerged with a significant design breakthrough: the S-Compact Body.

The S-Compact Body technology uses a tapered size that fits a larger size spool and more line capacity with a smaller side plate that affords easier handling. Anglers could get all the benefits of the larger reel, but in a much more palmable size . The new Shimano Calcutta Conquest utilizes the same technology affording more control and less fatigue for anglers who prefer to palm their round reels for both freshwater and saltwater applications. Coastal saltwater fishermen who employ jigs, irons and swimbaits are very found of Shimano's S-Compact Body as it delivers the perfect amount of power without the size and weight of traditional styles. To summarize, the Calcutta Conquest is more comfortable and the user has much more control of it.

Shimano Micro Module Gear System

Another recent technological advancement first seen in the US Metanium reels is the Micro Module Gear system. Japanese fishermen are perhaps the most detail oriented in all the world as tackle manufacturers and anglers alike reflect Japanese society as a whole which has a tradition of adopting new technology quickly. The Micro Module Gear System utilizes a greater number of and smaller gear teeth which provides more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. As a result, the reeling process is significantly smoother, more efficient and very quiet while also offering improved durability and precise alignment. While this may appear seemingly insignificant, once you fish the Calcutta Conquest Reel, you'll completely understand the benefits of this technology. The gearing's advantages are even more evident in Shimano's round reels than they are premium low profile reels.

We offer the Shimano Calcutta Conquest Casting Reels in four sizes: 100, 200, 300 and 400 - available in LH and RH models. See chart below for reel specs.

Other Features of Note:
  • Shimano Calcutta Conquest Reels - X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear are eliminated. This will enhance the casting performance of the reel with lighter lures, and allow for longer casts.
  • Shimano Calcutta Conquest Casting - Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way bearing that eliminates backplay. This provides the angler with instant hooksetting power. In some reels, the Super Stopper II can be turned off to allow backreeling for special techniques and situations.
  • Torque Limiter: - The torque limiter is one of those small details that will mean a lot to some anglers. If you've ever fished a level wind reel and had your finger slip between the level wind and the side plate you're aware there was no way to get it unstuck without either brute force or damage to the reel - either of which still left you with a hurt finger. Should the same occur when using the Calcutta Conquest, the reel will simply skip the gears enabling you to free your finger and get back to fishing.
  • SVS Infinity: Shimano's newest innovation in brake system technology, SVS Infinity provides easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force. With brake weights that use inner friction against the raceway during the cast, SVS Infinity controls spool speed for precision casting especially when using lighter lures. The external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits.

This reel is so smooth. This is the first Conquest offered in the USA. I have a few other Conquests that I purchased off of ebay years ago and this lastest version is even better. I was really surprised by the line capacity. Plenty if you want to use heavier line. The price is steep, but you get what you pay for. The workmanship and quality are bar none. Shimano hit it out of the park on this one!

If you want the smooth, compact, round reel of the future, look no more! This is the reel for you!
