The Shakespeare Contender Combo is a complete spinning rod/reel combo designed for a wide spectrum of fishing applications. The Contender Series Combo, from Shakespeare, offers four spinning rod/reel combos suitable for several different species of fish. Ranging from a light action 5'0" to a 7'0" medium power rod, the 2 piece Contender Series Rods have a model for everyone. Paired with each rod is a comparably sized 4 ball bearing spinning reel which provides easy casting and retrieval. The Contender Combo Series offers four rod models: 5'0", 6'0", 6'6" and 7'0"; all are 2 piece graphite rods complete with stainless steel guides. We recommend the Shakespeare Contender Combo for anyone who fishes occasionally and needs a durable spinning rod that won't break the bank. 8 year old son bought this combo, his own money.  he was very proud.   reel hasn't been bad, but the rod broke on the first two outings.  once on the first fish, a 14 inch bass, the next an hour into our following outing, on a 12 inch smallie.  I should have gave him the few bucks he needed to go ahead and get an ugly stick.
