The Onyx M-16 Belt Pack Manual Inflatable Life Jacket is a PFD device that fits around the waist like a belt affording quick inflation upon pulling cord. Onyx's M-16 Belt Pack provides a manual pull cord inflation using the internal Co2 tank. The attachment is really simple, a nice adjustable belt with buckle makes it easy to get a fit that makes you forget you're even wearing it. Once it is fully inflated, the flotation device will become a vest of sorts that has a strap to pull over the head to help keep you on top of the water. Additionally, an oral inflation tube allows wearers to increase their buoyancy and ensure even if in the water for a significant amount of time, they will be safe.
While any flotation device is better than none, we do have some personal feelings about these types of vests. The belt pfds are a fine option for many water sports, but not necessarily a good choice for actual boating. When you're running in a boat and are ejected, you're unlikely to have the presence of mind to pull the tab or slip the strap over your head should you accomplish the first task. Instead, for boating we recommend an actual vest. Now, for fishing without the big motor running they seem to be a good supplement for those who don't want to wear a traditional vest. Furthermore, the Onyx M-16 Belt Pack PFD is great for paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing and other water sports where a manual inflation is essential due to constant water contact.
