Nichols Lures Ben Parker Magnum Spoon

Resembling a trolling dodger more than a lure for bass, the Nichols Ben Parker Magnum Spoons are giant metal spoons designed to imitate injured or dying shad that bass feed upon. During the FLW Tour Event at Kentucky Lake nearly every angler in the top 10 employed the magnum spoon to catch a majority of their weight. Upon first glance, the lure looks like there's no way it should be used for bass fishing - the all metal spoon measures 7 3/4" in length, 2" wide and weighs 3.4 oz. Magnum is the only proper way to describe this spoon. Former Elite Series Bass angler, Ben Parker, who grew up fishing the Tennessee River Lakes, designed this Nichols Spoon to mimic large species of Gizzard Shad that the biggest bass in the lake are feeding upon. After years of development and personal use, Parker partnered with Nichols to manufacture this giant hunk of big bass catching metal. Ben Parker Magnum Spoon

Fishing the Nichols Ben Parker Magnum Spoon is a test of strength - as the old adage goes, it'll put hair on your chest. Anglers who have fished the spoon comment on just how tiring it can be, but how effective it is, so the tradeoff is worth it. Using the spoon correctly requires the correct tackle. Recommended tackle includes an 7'6" - 8' rod with a rating of 5-6 power - in fact, Alabama Rig rods are great choices for this technique as well. A high speed reel spooled with 20lb fluorocarbon is recommended as it is strong enough to handle the strain of the lure's weight, but supple enough to allow full action from the spoon. Spoon comes stock with a high quality, 4/0 short-shank EWG feathered treble custom-made by Trokar and therefore doesn't necessitate upgrading hooks ~ essentially, this bad boy is ready to fish right out of the package.

We offer the Nichols Ben Parker Spoon in eight colors: Blue Back Herring, Bombshell Shad, Gold Shattered Glass, Grey Ghost, Lavender Shad, Pearl, Silver Chrome, Silver Shattered Glass.

FLW Tour Event Kentucky Lake

During the FLW Tour bass fishing tournament on Kentucky Lake a majority of the anglers who finished within the top 10 were using the Magnum Spoon. It brought back memories of a similar instance that occurred two years prior when the Alabama Rig's prominence began following the decisive victory of professional angler Paul Elias on Lake Guntersville. Similarly, the anglers using the Alabama Rig outpaced their nearest competitors and caught fish no one thought were possible to catch during that uncharacteristically tough fishing period. If the early interest in the Ben Parker Magnum Spoon is any indication, we have got another game changer on our hands.

The pro's who did fish it included Tennessee river specialists Jason Lambert and Randy Haynes who are regular names within the top 10 anytime a tournament is held on a TVA lake. Lambert, a friend of creator Ben Parker, had spent many months fishing the initial prototypes before he got his hands on the final product that he considers to be as perfect as it can get. Similarly, many other local anglers had either seen Parker throwing it - it's hard to miss - or stumbled upon his Youtube videos where they witnessed incredibly fish catches and discovered another tool to be used on the ever increasingly pressured, famed Tennessee River ledges.

Ledge bass are commonly grouped up in big wads where their size often varies tremendously. One of the issues that many anglers encounter is the inability to weed through smaller fish and focus solely on catching bigger bass. Swimbaits, big jigs and gigantic worms all have their place and time, but they are becoming increasingly more common training the fish to ignore such presentations. In contrast, a spoon as big as the Nichols Ben Parker Magnum Spoon, is something completely new yet possesses an action proven effective by all of the smaller spoon options anglers employ.

This is a Jerry BUSTER! August 3, 2016

Me and my friend where fishing these spoons when crack, right in the back of the head. A Nichols Ben Parker Magnum 8" Spoon dangled, while pinned to my friend "Jerry's" scalp, through his hat. Boy the language that was spoken. After a brief trip to the hospital, we went back to the lake and slaughtered some "PIGS", AKA  largemouth bass. This only goes to show that once the monkey is out of the boat good things can happen. Be careful with these dangerous spoons, and Good Fishing!

Great fishing spoons and they do work. Especially good for catching striped bass in lakes. Check out the videos on how to use them before you go fishing. Have already caught eight striped bass of good size in two outings. All between 6 and 9 lbs.
