The Luhr Jensen Rogue Rig is designed to increase the effectiveness of live bait trolling rigs when trolling for salmon. The Rogue Rig, named after the Rogue River in Oregon, is used for trolling live bait such as herring and anchovies when fishing in rivers or offshore for big salmon. The Rogue Rig contains a small spinner blade to add color, flash and vibration to a plain live bait trolling rig. Luhr Jensen's Rogue Rig comes with simple instructions on how to most effectively rig the live bait up when using salmon trolling techniques. The Rogue Rig is constructed of 30lb monofilament line, a #6 blade, and a #2 round bend treble hook.
How to use the Rogue Rig
- Rogue Bait Rig
- Bait Threader
- Herring or Anchovy
- Remove trailing treble hook.
- Using a threader, pull loop through mouth and length of body (see illustration).
- Re-attach (half-hitch) trailing treble on end loop.
- Insert one treble point in body.
- Insert single hook (slip tie) through head (from bottom).
- Pull leader through single hook (slip tie) until baitfish has slight curve in body.
- Check baitfish to make sure it spins while trolling. It should spin once every second or second and one-half.
