Gambler Why Not

The Why Not is a soft plastic craw style bait designed for punching through heavy grass mats in search of giant bass. Much like Gambler's BB Cricket, the Why Not is a compact soft plastic that was designed to offer anglers some middle ground between the subtle BB Cricket and the larger, bulkier beaver style baits. Bass fisherman who have any experience with the punching technique are aware the first consideration of any bait needs to be its ability to get to the fish through feet of grass, hyacinth and duckweed - not an easy task even with the aid of 2oz tungsten weights. The second, of course, is a bait that will appeal to the fish once it arrives into their domain. The BB Cricket has long been the standard for which all other punch baits try to achieve, but for all its benefits, it still left anglers desiring a little more action and slightly larger profile. The result is the Gambler Why Not.

Gambler engineered the Why Not with precisely the right amount of action, yet still slender and compact enough for the mat fishing gurus. The appendages are designed such that they are streamlined into the baits body as it follows the weight through the grass, but will flair and flop around as the bait is pumped up and down or shaken directly under the mat. That was a key consideration of the anglers who had input into the design of the bait. Florida bass fishermen know their stuff when it comes to punching - they asked for just a little action from the arms and tail section so they could mimic little crawfish and bluegill that are so often the primary food source of bass beneath the mats.

The Why Not possesses a beefy, albeit streamlined, body that can hold a flipping hook as large as 5/0 without the point coming through the other side. This keeps the bait completely weedless and will be more durable than other alternatives. You'll find you won't need to continually be re-rigging as the hook point will stay in place. The tail section of the bait can be left as a single piece or split depending on angler preference and will displace water effectively using either manner.

The Gambler Why Not measures 4.5" in length and comes 7 per pack in the most popular colors.

I bought these for heavy punching in the muck. They seem to go through the thickest cover well and stay put on the hook.

My favorite plastic for flippin and pitching. I catch them better on this than the bb cricket. I think its better when bass want to eat bluegill.

Cricket good for craw eaters.

These are the best punch rig baits for the really thick stuff.   They hold up well on a flipping hook and seem to last through about three fish.

Love this little plastic for punching mats. I like greens or black/blue all year round. Wish they had a bigger one too.
