G. Loomis ShoreStalker series Fly Rods
Fly rod masters, Dave Whitlock and Flip Pallot teamed with G. Loomis' rod designers to develop a special series of rods for those warm-water critters that prefer to hide in the thick of stuff where they can burst from the cover, even darkness to ambush their prey. Originally they were meant for freshwater species like bass, pike and panfish, but the saltwater crowd quickly saw them as an effective tool for snook, redfish and other shallow-water species. These are rods meant for fishing the shoreline, the edges... abrupt weed lines, rocky points, submerged trees and yes... the mangroves. They are specialty rods designed to make short, aggressive casts where accuracy is far more critical than distance. They load easily at twenty-feet, yet have enough power and accuracy to punch a 3/0 streamer 60-feet into a small opening in the brush. They are shorter than your normal fly rod with fast tapers to help you keep your loops tight and line trajectory low to clear shoreline cover and overhanging limbs. They are subtle yet extremely powerful with sufficient strength to keep a big largemouth away from the pads or a snook out of the thick stuff. Not a lot of false casts are necessary with these beauties. Just get your range right and drop your bug on the spot. Then pick it up with one quick back-cast and do it again. There are five, 4-piece models, ranging from 5- to 9-weights, varying in length depending on the line size and target species. Each comes in a soft, protective rod sock and hard case for storage and travel.

FR965-4 ShoreStalker

Length: 8'
Line: 5
Pieces: 4
A delightful light-duty fly rod designed specifically for fishing ponds and lakes for crappies, sunfish and bluegill. It doesn't come across as a power rod, but there's a bit there should you hook a larger-than-average prize and have to keep it out of the brush. It's an extremely accurate rod for medium-range casts in the 20 to 40 foot range.

FR1026-4 ShoreStalker
Length: 8'6"
Line: 6
Pieces: 4
When the target species get a little bigger, but you still enjoy a challenge, this little 6-weight will get it done! It's powerful enough to handle stream-sized smallmouth and small largemouth, but where this rod shines is for big panfish. You'll appreciate the power in this lightweight when the breeze picks up. It's a freshwater rod at heart, but makes a great option for trout and puppy drum on the flats.

FR1027-4 ShoreStalker
Length: 8'6"
Line: 7
Pieces: 4
This is a great choice for smallmouth, spotted bass and largemouths in ponds and creek where you don't need large flies to be successful. It has a lot of power in the butt-section to keep fish from getting back into the thick stuff with a light enough tip to make casting an easy proposition. When that occasional lunker decides to grab your offering, you'll have a better than average chance to land it.

FR1048-4 ShoreStalker
Length: 8'8"
Line: 8
Pieces: 4
This is a good rod for bigger fish, especially where you don't need magnum-sized flies to catch them. Whether you're chasing largemouth bass, Northern pike or redfish, this rod will make your time on the water more enjoyable. It's got the right combination of power and finesse. Power enough to pull even an oversized surprise away from cover, a tip that's subtle enough to provide smooth casting performance and it's light enough to cast all day long.

FR1049-4 ShoreStalker
Length: 8'8"
Line: 9
Pieces: 4
This is the top of the food chain as far as freshwater flyfishing for big bass and northern pike. It's got the power to cast big, wind-resistant hair bugs and large streamers as well as the ability to handle big fish once you've hooked up. Heavy cover? You can give them the "no treatment" with this rod. Wind is not a problem here. Fishing for big pike? This is a great choice, and should you hook up with a muskie it may be a big surprise, but it won't be a problem. If you're headed to the Amazon for peacock bass and you want to fly fish, take this baby along with you. You'll be glad you did!

6wt wonder rod! May 11, 2015
Reviewer: Lou Torres from Plainfield, IN United States
The 6wt shorestalker has been fantastic! It works exactly as advertised, perfect for shorter casts where accuracy is more important than distance. Pan fish are a riot and a 3lb largemouth feels like you a pulling a cinder block up from the pond bottom! Most excellent for white bass as well ;-) I would recommend this rod as a perfect match for Midwest white bass and Florida peacocks.
