G. Loomis Spin Jig Rods

These are special, fast-action rods designed to give warm-water spin fishermen the power and performance of a casting rod in a spinning configuration. While many of these rods are similar to our casting models in both actions and power-ratings, they are rated for slightly lighter line because spinning reels traditionally donít handle heavier line as well as a casting reel, even with oversized guides. These rods were originally developed for fishing soft plastics for bass, but have since been discovered by walleye anglers for vertical jigging as well as grubs and light bottom-bounce rigs. There are five different power ďgroupsĒ, ranging from 2- to 17-pound test line. Many of these rods are suitable for light saltwater use. They are just what the doctor ordered for bass, walleye and pike on the freshwater side and youíll find a number of ways to use them in light saltwater applications. They are light, sensitive and extremely accurate. The more popular models are available in GLX, IMX and GL3.

We designed this rod for fishing small baits and leadhead jigs in clear rivers and lakes, where a shorter rod is beneficial for both accuracy and presentation. It's also a good choice for vertical jigging over brush piles for crappie in deep water. The magnum taper (meaning the tip's light and the butt's very strong) gives the rod a little more versatility and allows you to use a wider variety of lures. If there were such a thing as a "magnum ultra-light," this would be it.

Makes a good rod for "skipping" baits under boat docks and brush, where a shorter rod is better, allowing you more room to maneuver. If you prefer a spinning rod, this makes a really good stick for surface lures like the Pop-R and Spit'n Image. The fast tip and shorter length are a plus when it comes to reaction time, both for setting the hook quickly and maintaining snag-free contact with the bottom.

This is the ultimate deep-water crappie rod. It'll cast a 1/8 ounce jig a hundred feet and still has plenty of power to pull a big slab crappie out of a bush in 30 feet of water. The extra-fast tip combined with the magnum taper also makes this a beautiful small stream bass rod. Whether you fish with small jigs, minnow lures, spinners, or grubs, this rod has the perfect combination of power and action to cover all presentations, yet it's still light enough to have a lot of fun in the process.

This rod incorporates an ultra-light tip and a strong butt section, making it a very good choice for spotted bass-especially where smaller lures and lighter line make a difference. Perfectly balanced for 1/8 ounce grubs and jigs with 6-pound line, this rod is better for swimming jigs than bouncing them on the bottom. The tip is soft enough to fish 4-pound line and really light baits, like tube jigs and crappie jigs, even when you downsize to 1/64 ounce. When those bass get tough and you can see the bottom in ten feet of water, this rod will save your bacon.

This is a specialty rod for fishing light line on large streams and clear, deep-water lakes where casting range, depth and lure control are important. The extra length increases tip speed to give you greater casting distance which can be a definite advantage when fishing light weight lures. Designed to fish smaller baits for walleye and bass, this rod doubles nicely for seatrout, bonefish and other light saltwater species, especially in open water situations. It is an excellent deep-water crappie rod for big, brush-filled lakes where you might need a little more power and that IMX sensitivity is a big plus.

This rod was designed to extend the range of one of our most popular six-foot spin jig rods... the SJR722. It shares the same power-rating, but thatís where the comparisons end. It has a fast taper for increased power and good sensitivity for deep water jigging. A great choice for buzzbaits. The seven-foot length increases the "tip radius" during the cast as well as the hookset and that means more distance as well as more positive hook-ups. Saltwater anglers will appreciate the power it provides for shallow-water applications where the fish are strong and make long, powerful runs.

The quick taper gives you better control in the wind and increases hooksetting power for live bait applications. It also makes a nice lightweight striper rod, or if you enjoy simply lounging on the river bank, dunking worms for catfish, well, it'll fit nicely in a forked stick, too. Now that's versatility.

This powerhouse spinning rod is as comfortable in freshwater as it is in salt. It's our spin version of a Carolina-rig rod, with more than enough power to fish heavy cover and big jigs. It handles oversized baits well, and you can fly line small crabs a country mile when casting to cruising permit or small tarpon. Bass anglers will enjoy this rod for pitching jigs and worms around brush and tules, and it's powerful enough to sub as a light-duty flipping stick. After northerns and small muskies? No problem for the 844. This rod may be beefy; but thanks to IMX, you'll swear you're using a 6-footer.
