G. Loomis Salmon/Steelhead Rods

These are the rods that put G.Loomis on the map. They are light, sensitive and extremely efficient. In our opinion, the two most important factors in a steelhead rod are sensitivity and line control. Itís amazingÖ as big as these fish are, their bite is so subtle that if you donít have an extremely sensitive rod you can miss a lot of fish. Drift fishermen, whether fishing from a boat or the shore, face many variables. Water levels fluctuate depending on the weather. Some rivers are low and clear, requiring light line and a stealthy approach, while others are big and more off color, allowing heavier gear and no finesse at all. Rod length is important! Anglers fishing small coastal streams can get by with a short rod while longer rods work much better on big rivers. A longer rod gives you a more direct angle of entry into the water and that means less line drag from the current. Less drag means more sensitivity and knowing what's going on at the end of your line is what makes the difference. G.Loomis steelhead rods are designed with a dynamic, sensitive tip and a moderately powered butt that allow you to fish a variety of line weights and lure sizes. We make several different lengths and power-ratings, giving you numerous options for most fishing conditions. Select the rod that best matches your requirements giving careful consideration to the different levels of graphite performance.

A good choice for drift-fishing small to medium-sized rivers where you have sufficient room to work a fish once hooked. It balances perfectly with ten-pound line and half-ounce lures and is surprisingly strong. It will handle most smaller salmon species and steelhead, but is on the lighter end of the spectrum. A good great summer-run rod and GL3 offers a good blend of power and sensitivity.

GL3 makes this rod light and responsive. It will work well for silvers and chum salmon as well as winter and summer steelhead.

It's our best all around drift rod and thanks to IMX is extremely light and ultra-sensitive! Advantage angler!

Designed for winter steelhead and the small salmon species where you need a rod with a little more backbone for the larger weights required to fish higher water conditions and faster current. It is a good alternative rod for stripers, blues and other medium-sized, light saltwater species, especially when wading the flats where a longer rod helps extend casting range as well as line-control. GL3 gives you good sensitivity and light weight, both important attributes when drifting bait rigs and soft plastics.

A very sensitive, lightweight summer-run steelhead spinning rod, designed to fish 6 & 8-pound line and light sinkers in low, clear water conditions. It has a light, responsive tip with a soft mid-section that allows you to make delicate casts with small lures or bait to spooky fish. The butt-section is still powerful so you can handle large fish. While it is designed with light-line applications in mind, you can still fish ten pound line for some of the smaller salmon species, which makes it a nice option for low-water fall fishing.

As you travel north through steelhead country, rod lengths gradually increase (by the time you get to Canada, you're up to 12 feet or more), but when you look at the techniques involved it's easy to see why. Fishing the Cowlitz River in west-central Washington just up the road from G.Loomis-you've hit 9-foot country, and that's where this rod shines. It handles the long leaders and light leads required for the low, clear water of summer, and the heavier gear needed to fish the high, green water of winter.

The ultimate light-line steelhead drift rod. The perfect action to handle 6-pound line and a subtle power, much like a fly rod, that tires fish quickly. We originally designed this rod for the western technique known as boondogging. The technique requires a more forgiving rod, because the fish will drop the bait the minute it feels any resistance. This rod is soft enough to let you "see" the strike before the fish has time to react. A good bank rod, a great boat rod.

This is a nice blend of power and finesse in an extra-long drift rod. It's designed specifically for the big rivers of British Columbia where you need a little more sensitivity to detect the subtle take of a steelhead. It has a medium power rating that makes it ideal for summer steelhead and the small fall salmon species. GL3 gives you a great combination of strength and sensitivity. Light enough to fish all day, tough enough to last a lifetime!
