Fishing the "float & fly" is a very specialized technique for catching suspended smallies along deep-water ledges and cliffs. It takes a long, relatively light rod to handle the line and float. The light tip is designed to protect whisper-thin monofilament and cast really small hair jigs, the secret to this finesse approach. The extra length allows a positive hook-set with a long sweep of the rod.

Here's a very technical rod designed exclusively for fishing topwater baits. It has a soft, yet responsive tip that allows you to impart just the right action. It's short enough to work the bait with rod tip down near the water where it's more effective, but it's long enough to give you plenty of casting range. It has a surprisingly powerful butt section for maximum fish-fighting control.

A great little rod for fishing shallow rivers and streams from boat or bank. It's designed to cast small, light lures for finicky, spooky bronzebacks. A lot of extra energy (hook-setting power) is developed when you swing this rod because of its extreme length. It has a powerful butt and medium tip for fighting large smallies on moderately light line (8,10 & 12 pound test). But where this rod really shines is the gin clear lakes where you need to make extra long casts so you don't get too close to those pre-spawn cruisers on the flats.
