Duo Realis Spinbait 90
The Duo Realis Spinbait 90 is a hard plastic bass fishing lure that was designed for the revolutionary "spybaiting" technique originally created in the highly pressured waters of Japan. The Spinbait 90 is a twin propped hardbait that displays a rapid sink rate of fall in order to be fished on a horizontal plane at any depth the angler wishes to target. Designed with incredible attention to detail the Spinbait 90 exhibits many of the high quality characteristics US anglers have come to expect from Japanese imported lures such as detailed finishes, premium components and a precisely tuned action.
As mentioned, this lure was engineered specifically for the spybaiting technique... so what is spybaiting? The technique originated on the shores of Japan's Lake Biwa which is notorious for the massive pressure it receives by fishermen both recreational and commercial. Like many techniques from Japan, anglers sought to create a more finesse approach that could appeal to bass that were thoroughly aware of intrusive techniques used to try and catch them. Originally, anglers started experimenting with little to no action baits and Jackall even introduced their I-shad that displays a similar subtle action concept. Fishermen in Japan have gone so far as to modify their existing jerkbaits and topwaters with blades and weights to sink down below the surface and make their way through the water with a straight plane of motion. Duo Realis realized the need for such a lure and created the Spinbait 90.
The Spinbait 90 is a highly detailed 3 1/2", 1/2oz hardbait engineered to fall horizontally and remain so at all times during the retrieve. After the bait is cast, anglers count down the lures descent until it reaches the desired depth. Employing extremely light 5lb or smaller fluorocarbon line, anglers slowly reel in the lure as it rolls and wobbles ever so slightly while the blades rotate. Unlike many of the lures we've become accustomed to fishing in the United States, the Spinbait 90 doesn't possess loud rattles or aggressive action - rather, it is designed to draw strikes from fish who are close by and become visually stimulated by the lure's appearance and subtle, non-threatening action. The micro pulsation created from the smooth rotation of the props, the natural rolling of the body from its straight action and its lush flashing will mesmerize most bass. With that in mind, the lure will work best in clear water - in fact it is essentially required for this technique to produce.
Clear water bass fishing can be tough for some anglers, but the Spinbait 90 is designed to solve those problems. When its first suggested to fish 5lb test fluorocarbon, many bass fishermen may immediately scoff at the idea, but truly the magic of this lure is only realized with the proper approach. Because the lure has no lip, the only thing keeping it on plane is the use of light line and a slow retrieve - with heavier lb test the bait will rise and render itself completely ineffective. Best results will be achieved by using a long, fast action spinning rod and 5lb test while employing a very slow retrieve that more or less pulls in slack as the bait glides back towards the boat. It does take a bit of practice and a whole lot of patience to fish this lure correctly. Make sure you are always checking your line to avoid any lost fish or lost lures.
