Deps Basirisky Hard Belly Frog
The Deps Basirisky Hard Belly Frog is an innovative topwater frog lure featuring a unique design that really appeals to bass. Doing away with the typical skirted legs in favor of a single piece, hollow body design delivers a completely different action causing the frog to wobble side to side across the water. This activity mimics a number of forage species bass feed upon including frogs, birds, bluegill and rodents among many others. As anglers retrieve the lure, the Deps Basirisky creeps along rocking side to side all the while leaving a ripple trail in it's path. It even causes disturbance when worked through vegetation such as grass and lilly pads - unlike the typical frogs which need to be retrieved aggressively in order to garner the attention of bass living in such thick cover. Another consequence of the unique leg design is a larger profile which is much easier for bass to target leading to fewer misses and more hookups.
The newer design of the Deps Basirisky features a few small modifications from the original. Deps lure designers have made improvements to the Basirisky by sealing off the rear weight completely so this frog sits down in the water a little further creating more action and displacing more water. The change really helps when fishing the Basirisky dead stick style - imparting pops and twitches in between a few second pauses. Atypical of hollow body frog lures is the single hook setup utilized by the Basirisky. Surprisingly, this actually aids in much more efficient hookups as the hook point penetrates more thoroughly. Without the added hook point of double frog hooks, bass cannot gain leverage and throw the frog as easily. Topwater fishing is one of the most enthralling techniques one can use to catch a bass. Watching the lure creep along the surface only to be attacked viciously from below by a big bass stalking it is terribly exciting an entirely addictive. Of all the topwater lures today, frog fishing may just be the most fun of them all.
