Cumberland Pro Lures Prayer Jigs

The Prayer Jigs, from Cumberland Pro Lures, are hand-tied feather/hair combo jigs that almost identically mimic the large species of shad big bass feed upon. Hair jigs have long been a favorite among anglers fishing for bass and stripers in bodies of water where schools of shad or herring are the primary forage options. Similar to flies used by fly-fishermen for decades, the Prayer Jigs display a certain level of realism that is only achievable by using a material that interacts with water naturally. When hair jigs enter the water they take on an almost solid profile, but not entirely uniform like a swimbait, the strands of feathers and hair kind of twist and flare outward creating a different look to the fish each and every time. While nature is good, two real life baitfish are never exactly identical and their movements cause their profile to exhibit different shapes as the swim. Additionally, the way water flows through the strands of the Cumberland Prayer Jig is something completely different from any other type of lure or jig you'll find.

While anglers still used hair jigs, over the past 20 years they have gone out of favor among the younger crowd as new lures find a way to "improve" upon different aspects of the initial concept. No matter how advanced our technology gets however, their will always be a place for the natural appearance and action of these oversized flies. A perfect example is the BASS Bassfest tournament on Lake Chickamauga where both 2nd place finisher Kevin VanDam and eventual winner Jacob Wheeler employed hair jigs to catch a majority of their bass including a number of big mamas. Although they opted for homemade hair jigs, the profile and appearance greatly resemble on the lake's most popular lures the Cumberland Lures Prayer Hair Jig. In fact, anglers all over the Tennessee Lakes region turn to these hair jigs when targeting bass that are schooled up and gorging on big shad - it's one of the most effective methods to catch the big suspending fish that are too smart to fall for the other imitations.

The Cumberland Pro Lures Hair Jigs are built around a super sharp, light wire Gamakatsu hook that is ideal for the technique. This hook is perfect because most of the time you are going to employ a reel to pressure hookset that relies upon the hook first penetrating the fish's jaw before you completely set on it. Additionally, many strikes occur with a lot of line out and a lighter wire hook is far more effective at hooking up. You can see the Prayer Jig is made with a lot of care as the collar is hand wrapped with thread many times over with a lot of precision to ensure the feathers and hair flare out properly. As is the case with any handmade product, no two jigs will be the same.

We offer the Cumberland Pro Lures Prayer Jig in four sizes: 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 and 1oz in three excellent colors: Shad, White and White/Chartreuse.

Excellent jig for the money, big fish attractor; make sure you use a heavy test line, big ones will hit it running and break you off if not...
