Berkley Gulp Hellgramite
The Berkley Gulp Hellgramite is a soft bait designed to mimic the small bugs known as hellgramites which are a food supply of many species of fish. The Hellgramite from Berkley's Gulp line of soft baits features the patented Gulp formula which has been proven to outperform and outlast live bait. The Gulp Hellgramite is a perfectly anatomically correct replica of a hellgramite which is preyed upon by bass and other species of fish. Berkley suggest experimenting with the rigging options for this lure from a light drop shot to split shotting and presenting under a clear float. The Berkley Gulp Hellgramite is 1.5" in length and comes 12 per pack.
What is a Hellgramite?
Hellgramites are the larval stage of an insect, the Dobsonfly. Dobsonflies can be up to 4" long. They have a soft body, long, lacy wings, and long mandibles (jaws). Dobsonflies lay 2-3 thousand eggs on a rock or branch just above the water. The young larvae drop into the water.
Hellgramites are important food for bass and other fish. You see few adult Dobsonflies because fish have eaten so many Hellgramites!
