Shimano Curado I Reels

Re-designed for 2014, the Curado I Series Reels are an updated version of Shimano's popular series of low profile casting reels. Shimano went back to the drawing board with their newest Curado placing their focus on increasing the reel's performance. Shimano gives you more with the new Curado I series reels: more power, greater durability, better casting performance and a smoother, quieter use. Now featuring the latest in Shimano fishing reel technology and offered in multiple gear ratios, Curado builds on its legacy as the ‘go to’ baitcasting reel for both fresh and saltwater action. The Shimano Curado I Series Reels are available in five models: CU200IPG (5.5:1 - RH), CU200I (6.3:1 - RH), CU200IHG (7.2:1 - RH), CU201I (6.3:1 - LH) and CU201IHG (7.2:1 - LH).

Curado 200I Specs:
  • X-Ship for great gear durability
  • SVS Infinity Brake System (Infinite Cast Control)
  • Shimano Stable Spool Design (S3D)
  • Cross Carbon Drag
  • Offset Handle Design
  • Center Clutch Design

Curado I Series Reel Features:

SVS Infinity

Shimano’s newest innovation in brake system technology, SVS Infinity provides easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force on the new Curado I series baitcasting reels. With brake weights that use ‘inner friction’ against the raceway during the cast, SVS Infinity controls spool speed especially when using lighter lures, plus the external adjustment knob provides for quick, precise adjustments for either the conditions or when you switch baits. Combined with X-Ship Technology, anglers will experience precision cast control.

X-Ship

X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear is eliminated, enhancing the casting performance with lighter lures, and allowing for longer casts.

Shimano Stable Spool Design (S3D)

Shimano’s S3D technology leads to significantly reduced spool vibration. By designing a balanced and uniform thin wall aluminum constructed spool, S3D creates an incredibly smooth feeling when casting and retrieving lures.

Escape Hatch

By flipping a switch, the sideplate swivels downward, giving the angler quick access to adjust the VBS weights. The switch is located in a position that is easy to use, yet remains out of the way to prevent accidental opening. The sideplate is smooth for comfort when palming the reel.

Super Free

The Super Free bearing-supported pinion gear system (SF) was designed to eliminate friction on the spool shaft during the cast. In standard baitcasting reels, when the clutch bar is pressed down, the pinion gear is freed and can actually drag on the spool shaft, creating friction and limiting the length of the cast. With SF, the pinion gear is supported by a ball bearing, and when the clutch is disengaged the pinion gear and spool shaft are kept in precise alignment. The result is zero friction on the spool shaft for increased freespool.

Super Stopper

Super Stopper uses a one-way, stainless steel roller bearing that eliminates backplay. This provides the angler with instant hooksetting power.

I purchased a curado E several years ago and it is nearly as good today as it was the day I purchased it.  I did not get a curado G due to the amount of negative press that reel received over changes in manufacturing.  I decided that the curado I was getting good reviews and the sale price convinced me to give one a try.  I am very satisfied with the I series.  It has a light weight yet solid feel.  I like the features and cast control system and it is a great casting reel.

I have not had time to try this product but, if it's anything like my other Shimano's it surely won't disappoint.

All the great reviews about this reel are true. April 22, 2015

This reel is as smooth as silk. It was rated higher than reels much more expensive by Bassmaster Magazine in the April 2015 issue. Got mine for $140 and I couldn't be happier. Buy this reel, you will not be disappointed.
