The 3.0 Apex, measuring 3 1/4" in length, from Hot Spot Lures, is one of the most popular Salmon trolling lures on the market today due to the vibrating and spinning action at any applicable trolling speed. The Apex is a very easy lure to use - it can be trolled alone or with a flasher and still achieves the desired action and ultimately the desired results. The 3.0 Apex comes stock rigged up with 48" of 20lb leader line, 4 bead chain swivel and a 3/0 siwash hook. In the early season, when the Salmon are feeding primarily on crill the 3.0 model is by far the most popular choice of Apex, or any trolling lure for that matter. Typically, anglers focus on red or orange colors that match the forage the fish are feeding upon. The Hot Spot Apex 3.0 Salmon Killer is 3.25" in length and we offer it in a vast array of color options to suit any fisherman's needs.
Most game fish feed on minnows or small bait fish, as they are attracted by the active darting movements of the bait fish. The dodging and weaving action creates strong vibrations and are immediately attracted to the area. According to the latest research, erratic vibrations like those made by a wounded bait fish are the most enticing. The Apex Lures duplicate the movements of a wounded bait fish. Its contoured-scoop front surface causes a rapid, side-to-side shaking action as it is trolled. The Apex will also dart violently from side to side and will spin from time to time. These actions are highly attractive to fish and no other artificial lure possesses quite the same action as the original Apex trolling lures.
The selection of the correct Apex size is based on the size of the bait fish attacked by your target fish. The Apex size numbers correspond to bait fish inches. For example, trout feeding on small minnows would go after a 1, 1.5 or 3.0 size Apex. Salmon, on the other hand feed on medium anchovies or small herring most accurately represented by the 4.5" size. Lake Trout (Mackinaw) feeding on Kokanee Trout would go after a 6.25" Apex. The Apex maintains its vibrating action at a wide range of speeds; it has a strong shaking and rolling action even at speeds as slow as 1.5 knots. At the other extreme, the Apex can be very successful at speeds as high as four or five knots. Different models are designed to work best within certain speed ranges.
